Artist in Residence at the Google Arts & Culture Lab, Christine Sugrue developed “Mice in the Museum” to explore how AI might open up playful and surprising perspectives on art.
In this edition, the mice August and Pearl explore the Gemäldegalerie in Berlin – one of the world’s most important collections of European painting from the 13th to 18th century. They discover masterpieces by Dürer, Vermeer, Rembrandt, and others – and share their spontaneous observations.
The experiment uses Gemini – Google’s multimodal large language model – to analyze the artworks’ metadata and visuals. Based on this analysis, Gemini generates a script that is then voiced in real-time by a Google AI Audio model.
