Stefan Filipkiewicz (1879-1944) was a student of Jan Stanisławski at the Krakow Academy of Fine Arts. He is known as a creator of still lifes and a painter of Tatra Mountain landscapes, fashionable among the artists of his era. As Artur Schroeder wrote in the pages of Tygodnik Ilustrowany (The Illustrated Weekly) in 1914: “Filipkiewicz is one of the most outstanding contemporary landscape painters, a sincere artist with a unique and original perspective on the world, supported only in part by the influence of Stanisławski”.
